The first time I met Christian, I was struck by his energetic innocence. This boy buzzes about, always wanting to show me tricks he can do, words he can read, and things he observes.
Diving further into Christians life, I learned that his mom is illiterate in both English and Spanish and his Dad passed away before he was born. His family moves a lot, so Christian has been already to 4 schools and he is only in the 1st Grade.
Christian has an IEP and struggles to even connect basic sounds to letters. But, he has a courageous spirit that I have never witnessed before in anyone so young. He is hardworking and excited about learning. Words cannot express how inspired I am from him. I’m so lucky he is in my class.
